Assisting the Underprivileged in Israel

About 1990, CFI opened its Lighthouse Distribution Centre in central Jerusalem in order to provide a welcoming space to new Jewish immigrants to Israel, where they could receive not only support, but practical gifts for their new homes, and clothing for their families. The timing of the opening of the centre was extraordinary, just in time for the tidal wave of over a million Russian Jews that was to follow, in the aftermath of the breakup of the USSR and with it, the ability of the Jews of Russia to emigrate. Over the years, hundreds of thousands of Jewish immigrants in their first two years of living in Israel, have visited the centre to receive gifts and love from Christian friends who have been waiting to welcome them back to the land of their forefathers. These days, the centre gives away mostly new electrical appliances and housewares, as well as clothing. Some of the items gifted to the new immigrants include:

- washing machines
- slow cookers / crockpots
- toasters
- sandwich maker
- kettles
- blenders
- microwaves
- oil-filled radiators
- fans
Also available to the olim is a useful range of new housewares including:
- cutlery sets
- crockery sets
- chopping boards
- saucepans
- sets of knives
- rugs
- bed linens
- bath mats
- glassware
- sets of mugs
These are supplemented by an array of second-hand goods and good quality clothing.
The Centre also provides Tanakhim and Scripture posters in various languages including Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Amharic, Hungarian, Yiddish, Hebrew and English. Our CFI team encourage the olim with the knowledge of the very Scriptures that speak of the Aliyah in our times. The free gifts make a huge difference to the olim who are setting up their new lives in Israel, often from central and eastern Europe or South America where the cost of living is far, far cheaper than it is in Israel. These gifts represent the love and care of Christians from around the world who are true friends of Israel, and many of the olim have been moved by this outpouring of love in very deep ways.
